Turiaf Agrees With Warriors - Golden State Warriors

Lakers forward-center Ronny Turiaf agreed to a four-year, $17 million offer from the Golden State Warriors, according to two league sources. Turiaf is a restricted free agent. The Lakers have seven days to match the Warriors' offer. Turiaf's agent, Mark Bartelstein would neither confirm nor deny the offer from the Warriors.

"We've talked to a bunch of teams," Bartelstein said in a phone interview. "There are a lot of teams that are interested in Ronny. We'll just wait to see what happens." The Lakers' other restricted free agent, guard Sasha Vujacic, still is negotiating with the team.

When Vujacic's agent, Bill Duffy, was contacted Tuesday, he responded in a text message, saying there was "no progress today." Vujacic was believed to be looking for a contract starting at about $5 million per season.

With Brand Out of Picture, Warriors Reach Verbal Agreement With Maggette - Golden State Warriors

What next for the two teams that tried and failed to secure an agreement with this summer's No. 1 free agent?

The Golden State Warriors quietly pulled out of the Elton Brand chase Tuesday afternoon once they realized that Brand was going to Philadelphia if he was going anywhere, quickly moved on to new targets and reached a faster-than-expected verbal agreement to sign someone else from the Los Angeles Clippers: Corey Maggette.

Although Golden State still has a huge hole at point guard after also losing Baron Davis to the Clippers, sources said that the Warriors are also preparing to sign Los Angeles Lakers restricted free agent Ronny Turiaf to a four-year offer sheet in the $4 million-a-year range, which the Lakers would have seven days to match.

Warriors Make Big Offer to Brand - Golden State Warriors

The Clippers lured away the Warriors' best player. Now Golden State is hoping to return the favor. Flush with cap space after Davis' sudden exit, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million, according to league sources.

Brand, like Davis, opted out of the final year of his contract just before Monday's deadline, giving up a guaranteed $16.4 million for next season. At the time, Brand's agent, David Falk, told reporters that the move was designed to create some cap flexibility for the Clippers to add another top-line player.

Warriors Battle Into 3-Way Tie With Win Over Mavericks - Golden State Warriors

March 31st, 2008
Monta Ellis scored 30 points and Kelenna Azubuike hit two clutch shots down the stretch to help the Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks 114-104 Sunday night to create a three-way tie for seventh place in the ultracompetitive Western Conference.

With nine games remaining, Dallas, Golden State and Denver are all even at 45-28. If the season ended today, the Warriors would be on the outside looking in at the playoffs because they have lost two of three to both the Nuggets and Mavericks. But if Golden State manages to beat Denver and Dallas in their final meetings, the Mavericks would be the odd team out in a three-way tie.

Warriors Hang on to 8th Spot With Win Over Blazers - Golden State Warriors

March 28th, 2008
Another loss to another wounded team simply wasn't going to do, not with the Nuggets surging from below, the Mavericks trying to stay ahead, and the Warriors set to face both in a critical back-to-back set this weekend.

So after falling behind by 14 points to Portland in the first nine minutes Thursday, a disgusted Don Nelson called timeout to chew out his sluggish team.

"He asked, 'Was 14 enough? You want to give them more points? Or are you going to play with some energy?' " said sick point guard Baron Davis, the lone player with an excuse to be tired after needing an IV to suit up for the game.

Jackson Clutch as Warriors Edge Lakers - Golden State Warriors

March 24th, 2008
Just when it appeared the Los Angeles Lakers were going to successfully rally from a 26-point deficit, the Golden State Warriors turned to Stephen Jackson.

Smart move.

Jackson scored six of his 31 points on two 3-pointers in the final 38 1/2 seconds, and the Warriors beat the Lakers 115-111 Sunday night.
