Houston Rockets iconBrent Barry Signs With Rockets - Houston Rockets

The waiting game has ended. Brent Barry is finally headed to Houston. The 36 year old free agent guard made his decision Thursday, signing a deal which will keep him with the club for two years. Per team policy, financial terms were not released. Barry was one of the Rockets' top off-season targets -- in fact, he was contacted by team officials the minute the free agent recruiting period commenced.

The former Spur brings a sweet shooting stroke and a bevy of postseason experience to Houston. For his career, Barry has made more than 40 percent of his shots from beyond the three point arc. And while injuries limited his effectiveness at times last season, he proved to be a valuable weapon during the playoffs thanks to his red-hot shooting (46.3 percent on 3s) and a superb performance in Game 4 of the Conference Finals when he exploded for 23 points.

Tracy McGrady entered the playoffs last season with a defiant, three-word pledge: 'It's on me!'

After the Houston Rockets lost the series to the Utah Jazz in seven games and his record dropped to 0-6 in career playoff series, McGrady exited with a tearful, three-word whimper: 'I tried, man.'

McGrady won't make any bold declarations this time around, he said recently, because his teammates have proven to him -- through an improbable 22-game win streak and continued success with all-star center Yao Ming sidelined with a broken foot -- that he doesn't have to carry the load alone.

Houston Rockets iconAlston Will Miss at Least First 2 Playoff Games - Houston Rockets

April 16th, 2008
Rockets starting point guard Rafer Alston will miss at least the first few games of the playoffs with a pulled right hamstring he suffered Sunday in Denver, the Rockets announced Tuesday.

After an MRI examination, Alston was declared out for at least another week after sitting out Monday's 105-96 loss to Utah, an absence that even at the minimum projection would force him to miss the first two games of a first-round playoff series to begin Saturday or Sunday.

Bobby Jackson was out of the game, but he would not leave.

With 1:19 left, his work was done. But he was enjoying the night too much to get off the court until the order came, with coach Rick Adelman doing something that he could not have imagined a few hours earlier. He cleared his bench.
