Mayo Shines in Debut - Memphis Grizzlies
First round draft pick O.J. Mayo and the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the New Orleans Hornets 88-75 in the second of 53 games at the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS on Friday, July 11 held at the COX Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.
Darrell Arthur led the way for Memphis with a game-high 18 points, while the offensive effort was rounded out by Mayo, who finished with 15 points and Mike Conley, who had 14 in the win.
"It was a good game, but we're are a young team, we've got a lot of young players,” said O.J. Mayo, after his summer league debut. “I think our main objective is every time we step on the court is to get better. Game or practice, win or loss."
Memphis jumped out to an early 11-1 lead before New Orleans surged back to end the first quarter down 13-15 on the back of Hilton Armstrong’s five first-quarter points. The Grizzlies held on to their lead through the second quarter, owning an eight-point lead at the half; 38-30. In his summer league debut, Mayo led all scorers with 12 points going into the halftime break.

Kobe Scores 53, but Grizzlies Win in LA - Memphis Grizzlies

Rudy Gay led five players in double figures with 28 points and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Los Angeles Lakers 114-111 despite 53 points by Kobe Bryant against the NBA's worst road team Friday night.
The Lakers lost their second in a row to another of the NBA's lesser teams, having been beaten by Charlotte on Wednesday night. The latest loss kept them from joining New Orleans and San Antonio in a three-way tie for the Western Conference lead.

Ok Gasol Haters, He's Gone But Now What? - Memphis Grizzlies

As you get older, there's bound to be that one moment when something you were told over and over as a youngster has more meaning as an adult.
For me, one such instance occurred Friday after learning the Grizzlies had traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers. All of the sudden the phrase ''Careful what you ask for'' popped into my head.
That message should be delivered to all the Pau Gasol haters who insisted he had to go. Well, you got your wish -- He's gone!

Griz Bid Falls Short - Memphis Grizzlies

Andres Nocioni likely will re-sign with the Chicago Bulls because the Grizzlies verbally indicated an offer that is in the same neighborhood as what the Bulls are ready to pay in order to keep the 6-7 forward.
Chicago's offer on the table is a five-year, $38 million deal. It is believed the Griz came in lower -- closer to a figure starting at about the mid-level exception ($5.5 million).
Larry Brown wants to coach the - Memphis Grizzlies

Larry Brown's agent, Joe Glass, said his client, who interviewed with the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday, wants to coach again after taking a season off, according to a report.
"Larry Brown will be a popular candidate for any basketball enterprise whether it be college or pro that's looking for a coach because he's a good coach," Glass told the Memphis Commercial Appeal yesterday.
Brown, an executive vice president with the Sixers, met with Memphis owner Michael Heisley concerning the Grizzlies vacancy.
Memphis' Miller awarded Sixth Man Award - Memphis Grizzlies

Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies has been named the winner of the 2005-06 NBA Sixth Man Award, honoring the league’s top player in a reserve role, the NBA announced today.
Miller received 501 out of a possible 615 points, including 88 of a possible 123 first-place votes, from a panel of 123 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Speedy Claxton of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets finished second with 205 points and Jerry Stackhouse finished third with 162 points. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote.
