Miami Heat iconMiami Defeats Chicago 94-70 - Miami Heat

he much anticipated match-up between Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose proved to live up to its billing Monday, and it was Beasley's Heat that came out victorious, 94-70.

Beasley, who is playing with a slightly fractured sternum, had the upper hand early, leading Miami with nine points in the first half, while playing just over eight minutes. Rose, playing with a sore right knee, managed three points on 1-of-3 shooting in 15 minutes of action in the first half. Demetris Nichols led Chicago with 11 points in the half.

Miami Heat iconDecisions Only Get Tougher for Riley, Heat - Miami Heat

June 25, 2008
If the Heat thinks this draft decision isn't obvious -- and many league executives believe it is -- then Pat Riley's challenges get only tougher from here as he tries to find a high-quality point guard, smooth over the Shawn Marion situation and maximize the mid-level exception in what one league official calls an ''awful'' free agent class.

''The Heat is over-thinking this,'' said an executive with another lottery team who has spoken to the Heat and wonders why Miami has considered moving down from No. 2. "Michael Beasley is the most talented player in this draft.''

Chatter on looming Heat decisions:

• The draft: Miami keeps sending mixed messages. Believing Chicago will take Derrick Rose, the Heat told one NBA official that there's a good chance it will draft and keep Beasley, unless something particularly enticing surfaces. There's support on Riley's staff for keeping him.

But the Heat told another official there remains uneasiness about Beasley's maturity (numerous people believe that's coming from Riley) and a continued fascination with O.J. Mayo. And Nets president Rod Thorn told media Tuesday that ''a lot of people think Miami is not going to take Beasley'' and might trade the pick, noting "they've been very impressed with Mayo.''

Miami Heat iconWade Denies Trade Rumors, Says He Will be Ready for Olympics - Miami Heat

June 9, 2008
Back in Miami for the first time since he doused trade rumors that linked him to the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade insisted Sunday he's prepared for anything thrown his way these days.

Lately, that has included matters on and off the court.

Wade, who has been training in Chicago to rehabilitate a left knee injury that cut short his season, said Sunday he's increased his workouts to include 5-on-5 scrimmage games. He remains on pace to participate in the United States team's July training camp in advance of the Summer Olympics.

Wade has summoned New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul and Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony to Chicago to increase the level of competition in scrimmages.

Miami Heat iconHeat's Alonzo Mourning Hopeful for 2008 Return - Miami Heat

June 4, 2008
Center Alonzo Mourning offered yet another strong signal Monday that he will attempt to end his career in a Heat uniform rather than on the injured list.

Six months after sustaining a serious season-ending knee injury in a loss in Atlanta, Mourning said he is continuing to push for a return to the 2008-09 Heat roster.

Speaking at Jason Taylor's charity golf tournament in Davie, Mourning reiterated his single-minded focus in his rehabilitation.

Miami Heat iconHeat Tie Third Lowest Point Total in Shot Clock Era - Miami Heat

March 20th, 2008
Simply saying the Heat's 96-54 loss at Toronto on Wednesday was historically bad doesn't begin to do the game justice.

Miami tied the third-lowest point total in the shot clock era, which started in the 1954-55 season.

As you could probably figure, the Heat's 54 points were also a franchise worst. So was Miami's 25.6 field-goal shooting percentage. And the Heat's 26-point first half.

Miami Heat iconMiami Offense Hits New Low - Miami Heat

March 17th, 2008
The wall-to-wall photos from the 2006 championship run still line the hallways leading to the Heat's home locker room, making it easy -- and sometimes difficult -- to reminisce.

''I always go into the training room and look up at those pictures when we were in Dallas, popping champagne,'' Heat forward Udonis Haslem said of memories from the series-clinching victory in Game 6 of the Finals. ``It was a great feeling. It seems you blink, wake up another day and it's the complete opposite.''
