Hassell's role growing - Minnesota Timberwolves
January 7, 2007
If Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett is right, then today's game against Houston might be less about the Rockets' T-Mac than the Wolves' T-Hass.
Trenton Hassell, Minnesota's top defender, is certain to play a key role when the streaking Western Conference rivals meet at the Target Center, if only because he'll have the primary responsibility of slowing Tracy McGrady, one of the hottest players in the NBA.
But Hassell's contribution as an emerging scoring threat also could play a big role for the Wolves — not only this afternoon but also as the season goes deeper and the games get more important for a team searching for offensive consistency.

Hoiberg's heart tested by potentially fatal ailment - Minnesota Timberwolves
September 18, 2005
As he glances down to the left side of his chest, Fred Hoiberg's reasoning is simple. "If I didn't have an echocardiogram, this thing may have grown to a point where it would have ruptured on its own," the 10-year NBA veteran said. "That probably would have been it for me."Less than three months after having open-heart surgery, Hoiberg can now reflect on all that might have gone wrong had he not had an echocardiogram, or a sonogram of his heart, while attempting to get a life insurance policy during the 2004-05 season. "Forty-five minutes in, [the doctor] says, 'You need surgery. You need to fix this before it ruptures.' That was a shock to me," Hoiberg said. "My wife and I were both in the room, and it completely turned our world upside down. "If I had taken a blow to that exact area, which would have caused a rupture, that probably would have been it for me. It is too late for anything to happen, you can't get to the hospital in time to repair a rupture of the aorta. That's what's scary."
