Nets Grab Free-Agent Keyon Dooling - New Jersey Nets
The retooling of the Nets continues. The Nets are close to finalizing a deal with the Orlando Magic for free agent Keyon Dooling. The teams have agreed on a trade and are awaiting league approval, team sources said Sunday.
The Nets will receive Dooling, a 28-year-old combo guard, in exchange for cash considerations and the $3.3 million trade exception they got in the Jason Kidd deal with Dallas back in February, sources said. Though the Nets now have 16 players under contract - one more than the league maximum - they will not send any players to Orlando. Though sources said the trade is all but complete, team president Rod Thorn remained cautious yesterday.
"It's not done until you do it through the league," Thorn said.
Dooling has been the object of the Nets' affection for years. When the trade is finalized, Dooling will back up point guard Devin Harris and shooting guard Vince Carter. Dooling averaged 8.1 points and 1.8 assists for the Magic last season.

Nets Reach Agreements With Najera and Hayes - New Jersey Nets
The New Jersey Nets have reached agreements in principle with free agent forward Eduardo Najera and guard/forward Jarvis Hayes, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not released. The agreements are contingent on the passing of the required physicals by both players.
“We are very pleased to add two veterans like Eduardo and Jarvis to our roster,” said Thorn. “Both are solid, competitive NBA players who will add versatility and depth to both our frontcourt and backcourt rotations.”
Najera, an eight-year NBA veteran, played in 78 games last season for the Denver Nuggets, averaging 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, the 6’8” forward out of the University of Oklahoma was originally selected by Houston in the second round (38th overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft and had his draft rights immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Najera played four seasons in Dallas before being traded to Golden State prior to the 2004-05 season as part of an eight-player deal. After 42 games as a Warrior, Najera was dealt to Denver in a mid-season trade, where he played until the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. Over his eight NBA seasons, Najera has played in 493 career games, averaging 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, while shooting 49.3% from the field. In 54 career playoff games, Najera holds postseason averages of 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.

Nets Trading Richard Jefferson to Milwaukee - New Jersey Nets
June 26, 2008
The Nets shipped out the final remaining piece from their glory days today, sending Richard Jefferson to Milwaukee for two players and drastically reducing their long-term payroll to position themselves for a big splash in the 2010 free agent market.
In exchange for Jefferson, the Nets will receive Yi Jianlian, the Chinese power forward, and Bobby Simmons, the injury-prone small forward whose contract has two years to run at $9.9 million and $10.5 million.
"We feel that Yi can be a very special player," Nets president Rod Thorn said. "He is a 20-year old seven footer who shoots the ball extremely well, and he is an excellent addition to our frontcourt. Bobby Simmons is a veteran NBA player who has averaged 10 points for his career, and should be a rotation player for us."

Carter Sticks It Out as Nets Cruise Past Mavs - New Jersey Nets
February 11th, 2008
Vince Carter squinted hard as he dropped back on defense, seemingly not sure he was guarding the right player. He had taken a hard elbow to his jaw, and he did not appear to have regained all five senses.
Carter left Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks for three minutes, and the Nets, not surprisingly, began unraveling without him. But Carter returned, found his touch and powered the Nets to a 101-82 victory.
Asked whether he saw stars after he was elbowed by Brandon Bass, Carter said: “Stars. Stripes. Little birds. Everything.”
