Magic reportedly lure Pietrus away from Warriors - Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic were rumored to be in the mix for free agent Corey Maggette, but it appears they've gone in a different direction.
Florida Today reported on Tuesday that the Magic have reached a verbal agreement with free-agent swingman Mickael Pietrus, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season.
Orlando general manager Otis Smith told the newspaper that the five-year veteran will receive almost all of the Magic's midlevel exception, which starts at $5.2 million next season. The team is expected to sign Pietrus to a multiyear contract on Wednesday.

After an easy, comfy win in Game 1, the Orlando Magic were formally introduced to postseason basketball by their Canadian guests on Tuesday night. There was poor shooting, taunting, technical fouls, strategic shifts, roughhouse play, a lost lead. . . . and, finally, an escape worthy of an episode of Survivor.
"We survived, anyway," said Coach Stan Van Gundy, looking more disheveled than usual. "That's a good lesson for us. Today, that was playoff basketball."

Turk, Howard Lift Magic Past Raptors - Orlando Magic

The Toronto Raptors were missing their all-star on Monday night. Through three quarters, the Orlando Magic were basically without theirs, too.
Dwight Howard overcame a slow start to collect 19 points and 14 rebounds, Hedo Turkoglu scored 24 points and Rashard Lewis had 22 as the Magic beat the Raptors 102-87 on Tuesday night.
It was Toronto's second straight game without leading scorer Chris Bosh, and third straight loss.
"Obviously they were missing a great player, and it looked like we were going to be missing one, too," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "He was sitting down so much with foul trouble."

Howard Powers Magic Over Knicks - Orlando Magic

Dwight Howard had 26 points and 22 rebounds to help the short-handed Orlando Magic beat the New York Knicks 118-92 Saturday night.
It was Howard's NBA-leading 52nd double-double, and seventh game of the season with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.
Howard thrived in the paint with the Knicks missing Zach Randolph, their second-leading scorer and top rebounder.

Howard, Superman Wins Dunk Title - Orlando Magic

Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Dwight Howard _ super slam dunk champion. A red cape trailing behind him, Orlando's man of steel made like Superman and won perhaps the best dunk contest, definitely the most creative, in NBA history to close a memorable All-Star Saturday.
Using a variety of props as well as teammate Jameer Nelson, Howard scored perfect 50s from judges on his first two dunks before the contest was turned over to fan voting for the first time in the final round.
