Shaq Gets Hacked by Arpaio for Rap About Bryant - Phoenix Suns
June 25, 2008
Shaquille O'Neal will lose his special deputy's badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center's use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in January and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse earlier this month.
Shaq says rap rip on Kobe was a joke
"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."

Porter Already is on Suns’ Hot Seat - Phoenix Suns
June 12, 2008
Five minutes and two questions into his first press conference as coach of the Suns, Terry Porter got a firm grasp of just what he’s walking into. "Coach, are we going to have a world’s champion team next year?" the inquisitor shouted. "Or at least beat San Antonio?" The zingers came courtesy of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon but were asked on behalf of Suns fans everywhere.
"Thank you, mayor. Thanks for easing him into the job," Suns general manager Steve Kerr shot back with both a chuckle and a healthy roll of his eyes. Then again, there is little time to waste for Porter.
With an aging roster of stars amid an ever-improving Western Conference, the Suns may find it harder and harder to get where Gordon and the rest of the Valley of the Sun want them to go.

"I'm thankful I'm in the second-round process," Porter told reporters in Detroit before leaving town. "Go down there and do the best that I can do, and see how it plays out."

Bell, Diaw Fuel Suns in Game 4 Blowout - Phoenix Suns
April 28th, 2008
Grant Hill didn’t play. Amaré Stoudemire missed eight of his 11 shots and scored seven points. Steve Nash had four assists, and the Suns shot just 42 percent from the field.
Who would have thought those ugly ingredients could end up being the potion that finally toppled the Spurs in this postseason?
Well, don’t forget to add in 27 points from Raja Bell and a magnificent all-around effort from Boris Diaw, as the Suns drew a line in the desert sand with a 105-86 rout to keep their faint playoff heartbeat alive and give the Spurs a few things to ponder on the way back to Texas for Game 5.

Suns Out to Keep Their Cool Against Spurs - Phoenix Suns
April 18th, 2008
There’s an easy way for the Suns’ in-game entertainment staff to get Valley fans’ blood boiling. Show a video medley of the San Antonio Spurs’ greatest “hits.” There’s enough material to roll the images staccato-style.
They could start with Manu Ginobili’s knee to Amaré Stoudemire’s groin in a February 2007 game.
They could include Bruce Bowen’s knee to Steve Nash’s groin in Game 3 of the 2007 Western Conference semifinals; Bowen kicking Stoudemire in the Achilles tendon from behind in Game 2; and Bowen elbowing Stoudemire’s rib cage while Amaré was setting a pick late in the Suns’ blowout win April 9 in San Antonio.

Amare, Suns End Warriors Playoff Hopes - Phoenix Suns
April 15th, 2008
The Suns got some practice for the playoffs Monday, when they divided their game into a best-of-three series - controlling the first half, embarking on second-half disaster and then turning clutch with a 26-9 close to a 122-116 victory over Golden State.
It meant curtains for Golden State's playoff hopes and a boon for Phoenix's designs on rising from its sixth-place Western Conference spot after Wednesday's regular-season finales.
If Phoenix beats Portland at home and Houston beats the Los Angeles Clippers at home on Wednesday, the Suns are looking at two playoff fates:
