If the Sacramento Kings were in the Eastern Conference, they would be in the thick of the playoff race with huge meaning in every game. In the power-packed West, they have long been eliminated and must take solace in playing the role of spoiler.
Ron Artest scored 30 points, Kevin Martin added 27 and the Kings dealt a blow to Houston's chances of winning the Southwest Division with a 99-98 victory over the Rockets on Tuesday night.

Beno Udrih made two free throws to put Sacramento up by a point with 4.6 seconds remaining. The Kings then watched nervously as Kobe Bryant took the final shot.
His fadeaway jumper from 18 feet bounced off the rim at the buzzer.
"Everybody always holds their breath when he has the chance to win it,'' the Kings' Kevin Martin said Sunday after the Kings beat the Lakers 114-113.

Artest now says he won't quit - Sacramento Kings

After telling his teammates and people close to him in recent days that he was headed toward early NBA retirement, Ron Artest told ESPN radio on Monday that he was not going to retire.
The Kings small forward, who has been away from his family since his March 5 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence, told Stephen A. Smith that being away from his family is what led him to consider retirement. But, Artest said, that is no longer in the plans.
"I don't plan to retire," Artest said. "When you don't have your kids around you can get a little bit vulnerable, a little weak."

Having their bid for a new arena rejected more than once by Sacramento voters, Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof have quietly let it be known that they'd like to relocate to Anaheim. In Orange County, the Maloofs would be closer to their operations in Las Vegas. They already have plans to use an Anaheim location to drive their marketing for their hotel and casino, The Palms. That includes giving high-rollers use of luxury suites for Kings games and also having plenty of signage in the arena for their Vegas enterprises.
