Youth to Get More Time - Seattle Supersonics

February 19th, 2008
In their first game since the All-Star break and with only 31 games remaining, the Seattle SuperSonics will continue their quest to learn more about this young team.

With that in mind, young players such as center Robert Swift and swingman Mickael Gelabale should see expanded playing time as general manager Sam Presti and coach P.J. Carlesimo continue their season-long evaluation process.

The problem is, by giving some of the young guys more playing time, Carlesimo will disrupt the chemistry built by the Sonics over the past two weeks, which has resulted in the team winning four of its seven games heading into the All-Star break.

Szczerbiak Calls Timeout With None Left - Seattle Supersonics

February 9th, 2008
Down by a point with 15.1 seconds left, Seattle’s Wally Szczerbiak thought his team had one left.

Problem was, the SuperSonics were out of timeouts. So when Szczerbiak called for one after failing to get the ball inbounds, the Sonics earned a technical foul, giving the Phoenix Suns a foul shot, the ball and essentially the game.

The veteran swingman finished with 13 points off the bench, but his error in judgment led to the Suns defeating Seattle for the third time this season, this time 103-99 on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 18,422 at US Airways Center.

Lenny Wilkens says he has been promoted from vice chairman to president of the Seattle SuperSonics and is no longer a candidate for the team's vacant head coaching and general manager positions.

The 69-year-old Wilkens says he will lead a search to fill both jobs, but declined to give a timeline.

Sonics principal owner Clay Bennett, an Oklahoma City businessman, fired coach Bob Hill and stripped Rick Sund of his general manager's title this week. Sund will be a consultant for the Sonics in the final year of his contract.

Sonics' Allen Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery - Seattle Supersonics

April 8th, 2007

Sonics All-Star guard Ray Allen underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in both of his ankles earlier today. The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Ferkel at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute Surgery Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Allen will be in a walking boot for 3-4 weeks, after which he will begin rehabilitation. The typical recovery period for this type of procedure generally lasts 2-3 months.

Allen appeared in 55 games for the Sonics this year, his 11th season in the NBA, and averaged a career-high 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 40.3 minutes per contest. A seven-time NBA All-Star, Allen scored a career-high 54 points vs. Utah on Jan. 12, 2007.
